I almost lost my studentship (part 1)
Back in my school days, I used to be a visionary leader and always belief fighting for the right of my people is my major priority. I happened to attained numerous leadership post due to my popularity of being fearless and I'm ready to challenge and face any lecturer as the case may be.
I happened to be the HOC (Head of Class) for my set for 2 consecutive sessions. This event happened while I was in the first semester in my final year. As the HOC of my class, I call any lecturer a day to the lecture to know if they will be coming for the lecture and if probably a test is going to hold because I would not accept any impromptu test no matter the situation.
We are in the month of December and everyone is eager to go home for holiday. It was a Monday morning and I called this lecturer to reaffirm the schedule for the next day, this lecturer did not pick the call. I called several times simply because I know if this lecturer misses a class, she's definitely going to request for another class to compensate for the lost class. I keep on trying the number till the day was over but no response from the other end. It got to a point when the number was reporting switched off. At that point, I stopped calling and waited for her to turn up the following day for lecture.
Here comes the day meant for the lecture, I called very early in the morning but the phone was switched off, we all waited for her to show up for the lecture but the lecture never holds for that day. We were all relieved that at least, we are saved from writing of long and boring notes for that day as the class is always long, boring and full of note writing.
I got a call from the lecturer the following day apologizing not to have come to class the previous day and trying to schedule another class to compensate for the lost one ( remember I said, she would always want to compensate for any lost class). She said I should talk to my course mates and that we should deliberate a day that would be suitable for the class and that the class needs to hold before we go for XMAS break, mind you; she called on Wednesday afternoon and everyone is expecting to go home on Friday.
I know this lecturer is always hell bent on having classes whenever she chooses to even if she has to talk to other lecturer to spare her their lecture times. So I had to discuss with my course mates and we fix Friday 10:00am for the lecture and everyone can leave by 12:00pm and those that are muslims can go for their solat.
I called the lecturer back that day to tell her about our agreements to have the lecture on Friday which happens to be December 23rd. It wasn't convenient for us to come that day as the school has gone almost empty on Thursday that preceded the Friday, but we had no choice than to come.
Fast forward to Thursday, according to my usual habit, I called her on Thursday evening to reaffirm if the lecture is still going to hold and she said yes, it is going to hold. The following day which was Friday and the D-day. I called her in the morning around 8:30am but there was no response from her side. I tried her number several times but still no response.
My course mates were getting impatient as to if the lecture will still hold or not. I had to calm them down to wait till 10:00am which was the agreed time. At some minutes past 9:00am, I got a call from her saying she would be delayed for about an hour and the lecture should be shifted to 11:00am, I persuaded my course mates to abide by the change and they agreed.
When it was 10:30am, I called again to know if she is already on her way as she stays very far away from school. There was no response to the call. I called severally but all to no avail as there was no response from the receiver.
We waited till 11:00am, the lecturer did not show up. I asked my people to be patient maybe she's stuck in traffic. We waited till 12:30pm and I had to released my guys as they are all impatient to wait any further. I told them to go that we meet the following year.
I left the class at about 12:37pm to the Student Union Building to play Table Tennis with some of my course mates, meanwhile some of our course mates were still in class waiting to board the staff bus as staff bus is relatively cheap compared to taking public bus. We had barely started the game when my phone rang at exactly 12:45pm from a course mate saying "The lecturer is Around and she has started teaching those of us she meet in class".
"Oh My GOD...…………………." This was my response, I return to class with the people who are still with me, some of them have gone home and I stopped the ones around from calling them.
When we got to class, I met the woman already dictating notes to the people in class, I went to meet her that we've been waiting since and I have been trying to reach you but no response and that some people have left already. This woman wouldn't listen to my explanation, she just continued to dictate her notes.
At that point, I felt if something was not done, those that have left will miss out totally from the class and this woman is not going to have the lecture again. So I shouted at the top of my voice "EVERYBODY, STOP WRITING"
Everyone thought I was possessed to have said that but, I stood my ground that day and disrupted the class and left.
The aftermath of that action taken is not what I thought it would be...………..
